History of Ram Jhula

The famous Ram Jhula was originally a bridge made of very strong jute ropes, tightly woven to give it stability and to support the weight of passers-by. In the beginning there were no supporting pillars. It was later rebuilt in iron by the PWD under state supervision in 1986.As it is located in the spiritual and holy city of Rishikesh, the name of the bridge comes from the name of the Aryan king - Lord Ram - the hero of the Ramayana epic.Another famous river bridge is the Lakshman Jhula.According to legend, he crossed the Ganges using two ropes during the reign of Rama Lakshman. To commemorate this mythological event, the Lakshman Jhula was built with ropes in 1889. Therefore, as a sign of brotherly love and companionship between the two brothers, Ram and Lakshman, the second bridge was named "Ram", symbolizing the divine connection between the two brothers.
